Part of living a life of gratitude is being thankful for others. We should appreciate and connect with those we love as often as possible in order to make a positive life. I’m sure some of you are thinking, “You haven’t met my loved one, being around them is not a positive experience.” And while that may be true, I am certain there are some positive people in your life.
In order to work towards an excellent relationship with those you love, you must first be very thankful to have them in your life, and second, be someone who they can be thankful for too.
When I think about being a positive person for others, I instantly picture myself listening to them. I once heard that we have two ears and one mouth so we could listen twice as much as we talk.
If you know me, I love to talk so that is quite a challenge. Therefore, I am putting myself on a diet of sorts. I call it a word diet.Instead of blabbering on about myself, my focus for the next month is to talk when I have something of value to say and to leave off with some of the extraneous comments that are not helpful.
I aim to listen to understand instead of listening to reply and to remember that when I am talking I am not learning anything.
So the next time I am tempted to share my story because my friend or family member shared theirs, I will take a deep breath and be thankful for the individual and remember my diet.
