This past week my husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary by traveling to Duluth, Minnesota, for a little getaway. We fell in love with the town, the state parks, and of course Lake Superior. We literally sat for hours watching and waiting for ships of all sizes to come in.
The first picture above is my husband and I at Gooseberry Falls State Park. We had an absolutely perfect day to visit. The temperatures were mild but not chilly and the falls were so beautiful.
The next picture is from the Split Rock Lighthouse. I had never seen one before and this massive structure did not disappoint.
The boat you see in the picture above is 1,000 feet long and was coming into port to get loaded with coal.
I truly enjoyed the tour of Glensheen mansion. It is a 39 room main house that cost more than $850,000 to build between 1905 and 1908. The cost today would be $30,000,000! I have so many photos and comments about our tour I will save it for my next post.
Maybe you are wondering what this has to do with being grateful and living positively? First, let me just say that anytime you can get out in nature, whether at a state park or your own back yard, you need to. Being in nature is very healing.
When I got my first glimpse of Lake Superior I was excited and a bit overwhelmed. It reminded me of how big the world is, how little I am and how very thankful I am to live where I can get close to nature.
I love traveling. I think I might have inherited a bit of wanderlust from my dad. He was a truck driver for over 55 years. Part of why I like to travel is not only because I am a learning junkie and like to learn about new places, but also because I absolutely love meeting new people. I am a total extrovert so you aren’t likely to be a stranger to me for long.
I almost always meet wonderful new people when I travel and this trip was no exception. The people of Duluth are definitely “Midwest nice” and so helpful. It is very easy to be thankful for people like that.
I am hoping that each and every one of you are able to do a little traveling, get into nature and make new friends along your journey through life.
